“TIE OF LEGALITY” XXX ANNIVERSARY OF THE MAFIA MASSACRES OF PALERMO 1992-2022 FALCONE FOUNDATION – E. MARINELLA

19 June 2023

Giovanni Falcone, as a magistrate and as a man, proved that the Mafia can only be overcome if all parts of the state, the different components, the community and social actors work in the same direction in favor of justice, progress and peace. During his entire life, he loved the sea, the Mediterranean, art and the great beauty of different cultures coming together. However, Falcone experienced a lockdown for many years because of the strict security measures to protect his person. Giovanni Falcone therefore had few leisure opportunities to devote to himself, and among them there was the choice of a tie. In that brief moment, in that gesture, he was master of his time, the tie became a bridge between duties and commitment to be crossed with controlled freedom. The Falcone Foundation together with E. Marinella, reproducing in a limited number the tie the magistrate was so fond of, on the XXX anniversary of the Mafia massacres in Palermo, continue their support for memory with the contemporary art social project “Spazi Capaci+.”

Maurizio Marinella explains, “We have always been concerned of everything that drags positive feelings. This project was born from an emotion. Dr. Falcone was a fan of ties and pens and believed that their choice was an intimate and characterizing moment of a man’s style. Unfortunately, when he was under armed escort, he had to give up this and numerous other moments of freedom. Together with the Foundation named after him, we have chosen to reproduce in a limited edition a tie worn by the anti-Mafia judge and featured in one of his iconic images.

A Regimental blue background with light blue and burgundy stripes. The Regimental tie originated in England as a symbol of belonging to one’s home club. With this choice our common intention is to transfer this sense of belonging to all those who will wear the “Regimental tie”, to witness the choice of the path of legality.

The proceeds of this initiative will be entirely devoted to the projects of the Falcone Foundation.
